It is easy to get around on foot in the various parts of peninsula–whether you’re based in Samaná Town, in Las Galeras or Las Terrenas. Each offer small communities, best explored on foot, bicycle or even ATV (in Las Terrenas). Stay in a guesthouse or lodging with convenient access to the beaches and the heart of the area.
Where walking isn’t possible or the heat is too overwhelming (in the summertime), taxis and motorbike taxis (sans helmet) are popular and affordable ways to get around in these parts.
Tour operators offer excursions to popular sights and activities. There’s always a way to save and go with a local for an even more authentic experience–where this is possible, you’ll find this information in Moon Dominican Republic.
A couple of my tour guide recommendations include Whale Samana for whale-watching excursions, and Rudy’s Rancho for horseback riding around Las Galeras.
